Chuck's Coffee Shop still locally famous 52 years later

Chuck"s! Going strong since 1964. I had the great good fortune to find my way back March 2016 -- year 52. Not to disappoint, yes, Chuck was there! So that said, wanted to redeliver the best of classic California. 

Gleefully we found a parking space curbside outside Chuck's. After years away, it was time to return and ask, "Is Chuck here?" Not sure where or when, someone had said Chuck's had closed. That myth was put to rest over a bowl of house-made chili and head bump from Chuck. Lunch companion enjoyed a plump tuna and avo sandwich with bowl house-made navy bean soup thick with ham. No scrimping here.

The beach views and breezes were delicious. The happy regulars coming and going. Neighborly. Laughing. It doesn't get much better than this. I'm thinking it shouldn't take me another eight years to get back to Chuck or Chuck's! Long may they (continue) to reign along Belmont Shore!

Stephen's Farmhouse strawberry pie is local and luscious

Road trip to Yuba and Sutter counties. How many times in the past had I driven by Stephen's Farmhouse and said to myself, "Stop! See what it's all about!" Simply apply the brakes. Recently, I zoomed by and just as quickly did an almost legal u-turn back to their driveway. The sign declaring "Homemade Pies" taunted me. This should have been my first clue that Stephen's Farmhouse and I would soon be (feasting) fast friends.

Why had I waited so long? Fresh cookies, cherry tarts, jams and jellies, and (yes) homemade pies. All kinds of pickled this and that including pickles, green beans, carrots, and more. The seasonal strawberry pie is a work of art. And customized cookies for your special occasion, too. I opted to sample ginger and snickerdoodle cookies and a lovely cornbread muffin. Note to self: The cinnamon buns on the counter looked luscious. There wasn't enough time to do more damage, but no question I'll allow lots more time on my next visit.

P.S. Your canine friends will love Stephen's Farmhouse dog treats, too.

This is luscious. These strawberries are locally delicious and in season. When the local strawberries are gone, so is the pie. But plenty more farm-fresh homemade pies and cookies await.
